The Fashion Trends Of Japanese Clothing Lines

Issey Miyake
Showing his collections at Paris' Fashion Week since 1973, Issey Miyake and his label's successors design clothes and textiles based on the idea of a single piece of cloth or a single thread. Issey Miyake lines often combine tradition and modernity/technology and explore "the relationship between body and cloth." Issey Miyake perfumes have also enjoyed a lot of success.

Comme des Garcons
Fashion designer Rei Kawakubo's Comme des Garcons may have a French name and she may regularly show her collections in Paris, but the line is unmistakably Japanese. The line was first established with a series of shops in Japan in the 1970s and has gone on to become a cornerstone of Japanese fashion in Japan and abroad. Yet with time, the line's high-fashion look has turned to a more mainstream aesthetic.
Yohji Yamamoto
Yohji Yamamoto is an established clothing line. His clothing designs tend to feature muted, solid colors and a somewhat androgynous sensibility. Cuts and lines are deliberate and aesthetic but not frivolous. Based in Tokyo, Yohji Yamamoto has stores around the world, including New York and Paris.
A Bathing Ape
A Bathing Ape (or simply BAPE) is a Japanese line of urban streetwear that includes hoodies, shoes, jeans, and belts. The brand's logo is an ape mask; the ironic name "A Bathing Ape" negatively references its own affluent customers. Although it is known for being popular with Kanye West and other rappers, A Bathing Ape has few stores outside of Japan.
Uniqlo
Uniqlo is Japan's largest clothing retailer as well as one of the world's largest clothing retailers. Uniqlo produces casual clothes for the Japanese and international mass market. Most of Uniqlo's stores are located in Japan, but stores are found in Asia, the U.S., and Europe as well.
Evisu
A clothing company that originated in the Japanese city of Osaka, Evisu produces jeans and denim wear that is often painted with the company's slightly abstract seagull logo as well as other designs and accents. The emphasis of the line is on wearable urban street fashion for Japanese youth. Evisu has more than 450 stores around the world.
